Beledi Dance Theatre

The Beledi Dance Theatre is a non-profit corporation dedicated to educating and culturally enriching the general public in the dance traditions of the Middle Eastern countries. The organization consists of professional dancers and musicians, as well as others sharing a concern for the preservation of the artistic traditions of the Middle Eastern countries, including artists from other disciplines, and those interested in the culture of the Middle East.

The Beledi Dance Theatre approaches its goals through the teaching activities of the members of the company, community performances, and by sponsoring workshops and master classes conducted by noted artists.

Company members have served as instructors for college level credit and non-credit coursework, as guest instructors for dance studio programs and have conducted workshops in co-operation with public school districts and social service agencies and institutions. The Beledi Dance Theatre has performed for civic organizations and participated in community arts festivals and events throughout the United States.

Dancers and performers for the professional performing company are selected through an auditioning procedure based on a criteria established for judging the level of technical expertise in dance and knowledge of the form.

The Beledi Dance Theatre was awarded a grant by the Pennsylvannia Council on Arts under the "Arts to the People" program and also a grant  from the North Carolina Council on the Arts for the Asheville Fringe Festival.
